Bio

Shyvon Paul is a Brooklyn based visual artist who made the decision to study medicine instead of art 19 years ago. Little did she know this decision would ultimately inspire her creative journey and the intentionality of her works.

“My art pracrtice is centered around wellbeing, invisiblity, visibility, identity, and continuing the tradition of Black and African creative presence, processes, and expression. I incorporate a variety of techniques in hopes to convey the multi-dimensionality of my art.”

The usage and blending of traditional painting techniques with the implication of textile-based practices, paint & sculptures demonstrates the complexity and flexibility of Blackness.

 The aim is to stimulate, and evoke cathartic, emotive, and engaging experiences for both herself and the viewer. Shyvon’s art invites deeper thoughts, beveling self-exploration, and ignites our cultural memories.

 The Royalty series specifically, reminds us of our beauty, strength, and resilience. “We are Kings and Queens!”

The artist seeks to engage with communities of interest and to resist corrosive ideas within wider media, ideas that fails to acknowledge the deeper realities of diversity and plurality.
